The Dragonara Casino first opened its doors in 1964, at a time when formal evening wear was compulsory for patrons, there were only table games and no machines, and gaming was strictly an after-dark entertainment. For many years, the casino was operated by the Kursaal Company and was the last word in chic and glamour. After the Kursaal Company gave up its interest in the 1980s, the casino was operated under concession from the government of Malta. When that concession expired, an international call for proposals was issued, which was won by Dragonara Gaming Limited. The consortium has since invested millions of euros in restoring the 19th-century seaboard summer palace which houses the casino, in interior design, refurbishment, and state of the art gaming equipment. |
